Based in Australia, she is recognized as one of the world’s foremost experts in biosecurity. She spent decades working at the intersection of environmental risk, tourism, emergency response, and ecosystem protection. Her work has helped shape how governments, industries, and communities prepare for increasingly complex biological and environmental threats in a rapidly changing world. Nicky is also one of the first women to ever walk to the North Pole.

Nicky Swan is an innovation, transformation, and new paradigm strategist who creates solutions for businesses across economic development, governance, stakeholder engagement, marketing, and sustainability. She worked with government, not-for-profit, and private- sector organisations to develop practical, community-focused strategies that support regional growth and long-term resilience. Nicky has delivered economic development and tourism strategies for local governments, authored business and governance plans for major community initiatives, including the Mossman Botanic Garden Masterplan, leading up to her role there.
Her work has taken her to Papua New Guinea and Bougainville, Southern Africa, New Zealand and South America helping businesses in their development and certification processes in entering the medicinal cannabis and hemp industry. She is recognised for her collaborative approach, strong global and regional networks, and an innate ability to align economic, environmental, and community outcomes, while thinking outside standard business paradigms.
